Music has been an integral part of Meena's life, echoing from the vibrant, temple-lined streets of her childhood home in South India. Raised in a family where music was as essential as breathing, Meena's mother was a respected veena teacher and her father a supportive banker. For the past 27 years, she has been a devoted student of her guru, Shri Alappuzha Vidu, and her renditions of bhajans and classical songs have become a staple at temple festivals. Through music, Meena found her voice and a deep sense of confidence—an experience that fuels her vision to share the joy of music with children so they too can gain that same self-assurance.
In 2011, Meena moved to the greater Austin area with a vision of weaving the rich threads of South Indian cultural roots into the fabric of the "Live Music Capital of the World." For over a decade, she has been a beloved teacher, sharing her passion with more than 100 students, both children and adults. Meena's own artistic journey includes creating two acclaimed musical albums, Anandamirtham and Anandamirtham Volume 2, both of which were met with great success.
Now a resident of Leander, Meena's love for Carnatic music has only deepened. Her dedication to the community goes beyond teaching; she volunteers to ensure that children not only learn their cultural heritage but also develop into confident performers. Her name has become synonymous with Carnatic music in the area, a testament to her unwavering commitment to preserving and sharing this beautiful art form.
At the Meena Music Academy, we believe that music is all around us. The rhythms of daily life, the natural world, and our cultural traditions all have a song to share. Our goal is to help students enhance their perception, absorb the subtle nuances of Carnatic music, and build a strong foundation. We are committed to nurturing students to become skilled performers with the deep roots needed to flourish on their own musical journey.
